Jamatkhanas are central to the identity of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. Zahra Dharani of Brisbane, Australia fulfilled her TKN niyat by playing a critical role in the development of Brisbane Jamatkhana, a place for the community to gather, worship and engage with one another.
Over the course of 6 months, Dharani supported the procurement of an appropriate location for the Jamatkhana, negotiated the price of the facility and was involved in the interior design. This included securing a Jamati member who is a wood worker to work on various aspects of the Jamatkhana’s interior.
Having migrated to Brisbane 12 years ago from Toronto, Canada where there are many daily Jamatkhanas and a large jamat, it was fulfilling for Dhirani to help establish a permanent jamatkhana in Brisbane, her new home. If Dharani could use one word to describe her TKN assignment it would be “privileged”.
