Bringing the entire Jamat of Sydney, Australia together for an IST event is no small task.  The logistics required such as accommodation and food arrangements, developing teams to support all aspects of the sporting event and taking care of details related to transportation, security and medical support requires organization, dedication and attention to detail.  These are the skillsets of one TKN volunteer who took on the assignment of ‘Ismaili Sports Tournament Project Manager’ to fulfil her TKN niyat.

The assignment was most meaningful for this volunteer because she was able to include voluntary service of various age groups in the Jamat.  This required having to learn the various modes of communication being used by different segments of the Jamat.  By having to communicate effectively online and face-to-face, this TKN volunteer learned about the value of possessing a strong and diverse set of communication techniques and the importance of bringing volunteers together inclusively regardless of their age and background.

Although leading the logistics of an event such as IST requires precision and attention to detail, it also requires transferring ownership and responsibility to volunteers.
“Personally I enjoyed the wealth of experience and the happiness and gratitude felt in being given the opportunity to fulfil the niyat.”
