By Hamida Karim Vadsaria
Hamida Karim Vadsaria is a New Zealand citizen who had the opportunity to fulfil her TKN niyat with the Aga Khan Early Learning Centre (AKELC)  in Dubai.   Her assignment involved serving as a professional Early Childhood Education (ECE) teacher educator for 11 months.

Hamida felt privileged to be given the task of setting up the Nursery room (for the 1-2 years age group) and comments:
“The AKELC Dubai  teaching staff were very cooperative with me and excited to learn of various resources.   With the help of Arabic teaching staff we were able to compose English-Arabic ECE songs for children which enabled them to learn Arabic and English numbers, colours and shapes through singing.”
An unexpected gain for all those involved was the ability for Hamida to share her school administration experience, thereby positively impacting many aspects of teaching and school life.

Hamida worked with staff, children and parents from around the world including Syria, Pakistan, Philippines, Jordan, UK, Canada, Australia, and India.  It is for this reason that she sees what she gained professionally to be of equal or even greater value than her contribution.
